New Video on freezer jam

We just posted a new video on freezer jam:
https://youtu.be/ki89wJj0VD4

Mama Bear grew up on freezer jam and it has been a staple in our home for nearly 22 years now.  It is easy to make and something that the kids can help to produce.  We try to give our kids as many opportunities to learn not only how to work but also practical skills that they will be able to use when they leave the homestead to start their own families.  We will often hear them comment during a meal that they helped to make that or they helped to grow this.

We aren't raising chickens and vegetables at Bearly Homesteading, we are raising sons and daughters.  The food is just a nice bonus.

Tracking our snow fall

Today Lumberjack spent all day in the garage on a new woodworking project: a snow fall tracker.

This was completely made of lumber that he milled from trees on our property.  The cubes are spruce and the holder is lodge pole pine.  All of the lettering and decoration is woodburned.  Now everyone will know what the snow totals for the homestead are and won't have to continually ask Lumberjack.

Checkout the video on how this was made at: https://youtu.be/E6bAqQo7cHE

January

January has been one of the driest Januarys on record. We've had plenty of cold temps though, so snow is sticking around from the end of last year. Here are some pics from around the homestead on the last day of January.

Don't worry, winter isn't over. We got another six inches this week and it's supposed to snow on and off all next week. If so, next weekend will be perfect for a sledding party.
